Poplar Forest Fiber Demo Thomas Jefferson's favorite getaway is now nearing complete restoration, and has been a favorite 4th of July gathering for re-enacting speeches and historical demonstrations.

Monument Terrace This striking 139 step terrace is the site of many memorials to Virginians who fought for various causes.
Courthouse Museum Tours of this museum are a favorite with history buffs.
Miller-Claytor Home Built in 1791, and now located at Riverside Park, the Miller-Claytor home is the only 18th Century House still standing in Lynchburg. It is said that at this home, Thomas Jefferson became the first person to bite into a "poisonous love apple" while he was on his way to Poplar Forest, his retreat in nearby Bedford County.
Old City Cemetary The gardens that grace the Old City Cemetery are a favorite attraction for gardening enthusiast. Come see the famous Butterfly Gardens!
Point of Honor Point of Honor, A Federal-style mansion overlooking the James, is a Virginia Historic Landmark which has been completely restored and features authentically recreated gardens and grounds. The name is said to derive from duels fought upon the grounds. It was built by Dr. George Cabell, Patrick Henry's personal physician.
Batteau Festival In the late 1700's Anthony Rucker, an Amherst County tobacco farmer, designed a flat boat for carrying tobacco across the unpredictable currents of the James. Today, Greater Lynchburg celebrates the significance of this river boat during the annual Bateau Festival.

Woodson's Mill Step back into a different lifestyle at Woodson's Mill.

Anne Spencer Gardens Anne Spencer, the only Virginia poet to be included in the Norton Anthology of Literature, lived here and loved the gardens she tended and wrote about. An important voice in the Harlem Renaissance she wrote for the love of poetry rather than any audience.

Oakridge Estate Nearby in Nelson County, is Oak Ridge Estate, once the home of Thomas Fortune Ryan, who became one of the ten richest men in the country.
Avoca The Lynchburg Area abounds in Historical Beauty. The Avoca Museum is the home and burial place of Col. Charles Lynch, revolutionary war hero and brother of Lynchburg's Founding Father, John Lynch.
Rivermont Area The neighborhoods along the Rivermont area have access to vistas of the James. Especially scenic is Riverside Park.
